Funds of the Ottawa Citizen Literacy Foundation are invested and managed by the Community Foundation of Ottawa. Interest earned on the fund is used in support of literacy projects in the community. The Community Foundation manages the grant program on behalf of the Ottawa Citizen Literacy Foundation.

Purpose

The Ottawa Citizen Literacy Foundation was established in 1993 to act on the belief that literacy is a powerful tool, leading to improved quality of life and greater participation in society.

Organizations are invited to apply for funds to support literacy and language training in areas served by the Ottawa Citizen in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.

The annual deadline for applications is October 1. To be considered in each grant cycle, complete applications must be received at our office no later than 5 p.m. on the deadline date.

Eligibility

Grants are made to not-for-profit organizations, including school boards, recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency as registered charities, or those organizations sponsored by a registered charity. Applicants must demonstrate fiscal responsibility and have a committed volunteer committee or board.

Please note that applications for the funding of deficits will not be considered.
