The Independent Filmmakers Co-operativeIFCO’s Reel Boys: The Independent Filmmakers Co-operative of Ottawa

The Independent Filmmakers Co-operative of Ottawa (IFCO) is the only organization of its kind in Ottawa providing local filmmakers with the facilities, training and funding to make independent films in authentic celluloid formats. Incorporated in 1992, IFCO has grown from a bare-bones facility run by five founding members to a thriving co-op in Ottawa's Arts Court boasting 125 members. More ...

iSisters and OCISOiSisters and OCISO: New Technologies = New Opportunities

iSisters Technology Mentoring connects women in need with opportunities to become more technologically literate through learning programs in the Ottawa area. Celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2011, the organization has grown from a group of volunteer teachers supporting pregnant teens at St. Mary's Home in 2001 to a wide-reaching series of partnerships with such charitable organizations as Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa, Tungasuvvingat Inuit, the Youville Centre, Immigrant Women Services Ottawa, Cornerstone Women's Shelter, and St Joe's Women's Centre.  More ...

circle5bBhawani Anantaraman Memorial Foundation Fund

The Bhawani Anantaraman Memorial Foundation was established in 1995 by Dr. Anant Anantaraman in memory of his wife, Bhawani, and his two daughters, Aruna (aged 15) and Rupa (aged 11), who died in the Air India bombing ten years earlier. After spending several years supporting various organizations with donation and volunteer efforts in their honour, Dr. Anantaraman decided to focus his efforts by setting up a foundation to promote studies in music, as well as general education among children, particularly the disadvantaged.  More ...

On September 17, 2010, Ottawa lost a pillar of the music scene when former Ottawa Citizen arts critic Jacob Siskind passed away at the age of 82. Described as a "consummate newspaper pro", Siskind wrote about music and dance for the Citizen for 13 years until his retirement in 1993, winding up a 50-year journalism career. But it was classical music that was his true passion, as was made abundantly clear when upon his death, it was discovered that he had left the bulk of his estate to the Ottawa Chamber Music Society (OCMS).  More ...

MMLTCThe Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust Conservancy Fund: Care for the Land you Love

In the summer of 2010, the Community Foundation of Ottawa entered into a unique partnership with the Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust Conservancy to support the long-term stewardship of conservation lands in the Ottawa area. Part of a province-wide campaign called "Care for the Land you Love," the partnership is one of 14 initiatives between community foundations and their area land trusts that offer donors a whole new way to help protect their local eco-systems.  More ...
